I am a 49 year old woman and I am suffering from thinning hair on the crown of my head extending to the front. It started about 10 years ago and now it is very noticeable. It seems to be genetic. Hair loss runs in my father's family. He lost his hair in his ealy 20's and my grandmother showed the same hair loss pattern as I do in her 50s. What method do you recommend, I heard you mention different folicular types. My biggest concern is the "plug look". I want it to look natural. I also still have a natural hairline on the front and have used Rogaine now for almost 10 years. I live here in northern CA, and I was wondering if it would be feasable to do a consultation and procedure on concurrent days or within a week. If things cannot be done with you in Tx, could you recommend a local physician here in CA. What is your thought on Boseley?

we really do specialize in females and i do great work in the crown region. that being said, it is always good to make sure that you have your basic blood work done just to make sure everything makes sense. i would have your doctor make sure that you don't have an issue with a low thyroid, low iron/ferritin level, high DHEAS level (male hormone), high testosterone, love estrogen, for example. if you don't have an obvious treatable condition, then i could do the transplant for you. i would also have you apply rogaine specifically to the crown region for at least 6 weeks to 3 months (i assume you are applying it there?). finally, it would be a good idea just to check with a dermatologist to make sure that your hair loss in the back is "normal" on not indicative of an underlying issue. obviously, with men, i don't do as much workup. in women, i just want to make sure every t is crossed and every i is dotted. you can send me photos if you like to drlam@lamfacialplastics.com for a quick review to start. after all of the above, i would be more than happy to do your work. i have people in SF and LA that could remove your sutures if need be after 10 days. you could just fly in for a day or so then fly back.

HI Dr. Lam, Thanks for your quick reply. I will get all my labs done and let you know the results. I have been using Rogaine for at least 7 years. I am sure it worked on slowing the hair loss to some degree, however I did not notice any regroth on my crown region. I will send you some photos so you can see the extend of my loss.

what you are showing is a very common female hair loss pattern and i should be able to improve it well with a transplant. just to let you know, thiis is not the "crown" you are showing me (which is at the back of the head) but the hairline and forelock. when the labs are back and they are not tremendously abnormal, we can plan a procedure. please contiue your rogaine until the procedure. very important.
